Steven Stanton, the city manager of Largo, Florida was fired from his job after revealing his plans to have a sex change operation to become a woman in February of 2007. The city commissioners made their decision fearing Stanton's inability to remain neutral in the administration of his duties following the huge public outcry about his revelation. While Stanton may not have made the argument, it could be said that his recognition of his feminine gender identity after years of living as a man would give him the unique ability to recognize and understand multiple sides of divisive political issues.
